Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹30 lakh for a slow over-rate during their final league match of IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This was LSG’s third over-rate offence of the season, triggering an automatic higher penalty under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The remaining members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever amount was lower.

While Pant stole the spotlight earlier in the evening with a breathtaking 118* off 61 deliveries—his first IPL century since 2018—the post-match penalty took the shine off what could’ve been a heroic finale. Despite Pant’s efforts and LSG posting a mammoth 227/3, their bowlers faltered under pressure as RCB chased down the target with remarkable ease.

The IPL released an official statement confirming the sanction: “As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

Notably, LSG had already been found guilty of over-rate violations on April 4 and April 27, both against Mumbai Indians. This recurring issue highlights a glaring lapse in game management, one that proved costly as their campaign ended in disappointment.

The match itself was a high-octane affair. RCB began their chase with confidence, powered by Phil Salt and Virat Kohli’s 61-run stand. After Kohli departed for 54, Jitesh Sharma unleashed an astonishing counterattack. His unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls steered RCB to their highest successful chase in IPL history, with nine balls to spare.

The win propelled RCB into Qualifier 1, where they will clash with Punjab Kings on May 29. For LSG, who finished seventh on the points table, it was another season of unfulfilled promise—one marked by brilliance from individuals, but undone by lapses in execution and discipline.
