MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant

In recent times, it has been circulated a lot of times that Rishabh Pant is the aptest replacement for a stalwart like MS Dhoni. He has been known as the next big thing of Indian cricket still getting less than sufficient in India’s recent limited-overs projects.

It seems that Indian selectors have sidelined the Pant as they believe more in old wines. Indian skipper Virat Kohli loves to take valuable advice from Dhoni in crunch match situations and that seems one of the crucial reasons that Rishabh is getting fewer match practice.

In early days of Kohli, Dhoni backed him by replacing players like Sourav Ganguly despite the fact that Kohli failed in the first few matches. However, Indian fans are expecting that Pant can be a very strong contender to play in ICC World Cup 2019 and in order to make that happen, the young lad needs to be selected at least for a squad on a tour so that he can prove his worth whenever a chance is given.

Considering the current Indian squad for the upcoming limited-overs series, it is full of future stars like Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey and KL Rahul. And this squad gives an impression of staying together till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. After analyzing the current squad, it seems that Virat isn’t considering Pant for the big tournament in 2019.

On the other hand, Dhoni seems to be fit enough to play till the 2019 world cup and it’s difficult to replace him at least for now. Critics are only concerned about his age and absence of a 20-year-old in the dressing room. BCCI’s chief selector MSK Prasad said that the team is considering the rotation policy and only for this reason, Yuvraj Singh has been ‘rested’ and not ‘dropped’.

Coming back to the ‘rotation policy’, it is certain that Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant can’t be put in the same bracket when the latter is a promising youngster while the other is an old wine losing its touch. However, we can only hope that the future cricketers of Indian cricket like Pant should get enough opportunities so that the talent doesn’t go wasted.
