Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant opened up about his “really challenging” recovery journey after suffering a foot fracture in England earlier this year. Now back to full fitness, Pant is leading India ‘A’ against South Africa ‘A’ at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, where he credited the medical staff, physios, and rehabilitation facilities for their constant support throughout his recovery.

Pant’s injury occurred during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, when he missed a reverse hoick against pacer Chris Woakes in the fourth Test and was struck flush on his foot. The injury forced him off the field, and although he courageously returned to bat with a cast to save the match, it ruled him out for nearly three months.
Reflecting on his comeback, Rishabh Pant told BCCI.tv, “It was really challenging for me. I had that fracture in England and had to go through the whole process. The first step was healing, which took around six weeks. After that, I came to the CoE. The healing went well, and from there I began my rehab gradually.”

He further added, “Initially, I focused on physio work, then slowly shifted to strength training. From there, I moved into the second phase, and now I’m fully recovered — thanks to the CoE team for helping me get back.”
Following his injury in the England series, Rishabh Pant underwent an intensive rehabilitation program at the BCCI Centre of Excellence 👍 👍
The focus extended beyond physical recovery, with equal emphasis on mental conditioning and match readiness.

The 27-year-old emphasised the importance of mental strength and positivity during injury layoffs, a lesson he has learned through multiple setbacks in his career.
“Being positive is a mindset. During an injury, you get demotivated, energy levels drop, and frustration kicks in. But it’s important to do small things that make you feel good and keep you motivated,”Rishabh Pant explained.

In the ongoing four-day match, India ‘A’ have struggled against South Africa ‘A’. After conceding 309 in the first innings, the hosts were bowled out for 234, with Pant managing 17 off 20 balls. The visitors extended their lead to 105 by the end of Day 2, reaching 30/0. Pant’s return, however, remains a significant boost for Indian cricket, as fans eagerly await his full-fledged international comeback.
