Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant opened up on his emotional celebration after his stunning century on his Test return in India’s 280-run win over Bangladesh in the Chennai Test. Pant’s return from injury after a horrific car accident in December 2022 and scoring tons made headlines. He scored 109 and added a fourth wicket with Shubman Gill, helping India post a decent total as well.

However, Rishabh Pant stood in the middle of the pitch, closed his eyes, raised his bat, and tilted his head upward, offering a silent prayer of gratitude as well.

Reflecting on the emotional moment, Rishabh Pant said after the game, “This 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After my injury, I wanted to play in all three formats, and this was my first [Test] match after coming back. It was emotional, I wanted to score in each and every match, which didn’t happen earlier, but coming back to Test cricket, which is where I belong the most, made it special.”

“I just enjoyed batting and got a little bit emotional. But at the end of the day, being in the field gives me more pleasure than anything else. I try to read the situation in my own way. When you are 30-3, you need to stitch a partnership. That’s what Gill and I did,” Rishabh Pant concluded.

Rohit Sharma said on Rishabh Pant after the game, “He’s been through some really tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times was superb to watch. He came back in the IPL, followed by a very successful World Cup and this is the format he loves the most. For us, it was never about what is he going to do with the bat, we always knew what he had with the bat and with the gloves as well. It was just about giving him the game time. Credit to him as well, he went on to play Duleep Trophy and got ready for this Test match and had an impact straightaway in the game.”
