Rishabh Pant Recovers From Covid-19, May Join Team On July 20

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has recovered from Covid-19 ahead of the all-important England Test series. He got infected on 8 July during the off-time in England after the conclusion of the World Test Championship Final.

Now, he will join Team India back but won’t be able to feature in the first warm-up game against County XI in Durham, which is starting from 20 July. He is expected to be back in time for the second warm-up game that will take place later this month.

After coming in contact with the virus, he isolated himself at his friend’s home and now have completed the 10-day isolation period.

According to reports in Times Now, Pant has recovered from the virus and will join the team’s bio-bubble on Tuesday (July 20). Currently, the Indian team is in Durham preparing for the first warm-up game against County XI, which has also been given first-class status.

Other than Pant, India’s throwdown specialist Dayanand Garani was also tested positive for the covid-19 when he was in the team’s hotel. He was put in isolation and Wriddhiman Saha and Bharat Arun were also kept in isolation after coming in close contact with him.

Pant and Saha won’t be available for the warm-up game in Durham. In the absence of both wicketkeepers, KL Rahul is likely to keep the wickets during this game.

The players and their family members have already received their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in England and have also been undergoing lateral flow tests on a regular basis to keep the virus at bay. The players had assembled in Durham last week for their first warm-up game which will be a three-day affair.

The warm-up matches will give the team a much-needed opportunity to find their rhythm ahead of the five-match Test series against England which gets underway from August 04.
