India got some consolation when the dynamic wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant received a blow to his knee while trying to stump Devon Conway off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling during New Zealand’s first innings of the ongoing Test match here at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Pant was hit on his unprotected right knee in the 37th over of Day 2.

This blow, however, forced him out of the field, and young Dhruv Jurel had to be nearly pushed to act to complete the wicket-keeping assignment for the rest of the day. However, Pant’s injury did raise some concerns as he did not return to the field behind the stumps on Day 3, and Jurel continued to keep wickets for India.

Speculation ran rife over whether Pant would be able to play the second innings of the match, and the fans were waiting rather nervously along with Indian team management over the updates on the situation. Pant’s absence may be a huge loss for the Indian team as he forms an integral part of India’s middle order.

And there’s some good news on the way for India-from-in-the-womb state in Rishabh Pant. The 27-year-old was seen shadow batting and taking throwdowns during the Tea break on the third day, hinting at a desire to get back into action. In fact, this development is a good one for the Indian side, as the match is delicately poised.

In Pant, the Indians have a batsman who can play without an inhibitor and well change the course of any game with his bat. His return will surely provide the needed stimulus to the Indian team in their quest to make a comeback in this game. Viewers eagerly await to see Pant on the field, reading this situation over the same bating stint.
