Delhi Capitals came close but it can be said that they failed to win this game due to a few tactical issues. Firstly, they decided to go with a batter short and replaced Ripal Patel with Tom Curran for the important encounter. When batting, the team felt the repercussions of it as Pant and Hetmyer had to bat carefully when a few wickets fell quickly

With the ball, too, DC failed to execute well as the likes of Avesh Khan and Kagiso Rabada struggled, and Pant used Avesh and Tom Curran for the final two overs of the innings. The duo failed to bowl well and CSK got over the line in the final over. Ahead of Qualifier 2, the team must now regroup and find a balanced strategy to reach the finals.

Rishabh Pant gave the 19th over to Avesh Khan ahead of Kagiso Rabada. Although Rabada had conceded a few runs, he was still a better bet than Avesh, who too, was bowling wayward. Avesh then lost his length and gave away a few boundaries. Although Tom Curran had bowled well, Rabada is experienced and could have defended 12 runs in the final over.

However, Rishabh Pant went with the Englishman, as he said, “Obviously it is very disappointing, and I can’t have enough words to describe how we are feeling. [Decision for the last over?] I thought Tom bowled beautifully throughout the match, and so I thought better to use him for the last over. The score was decent, and they got off to a flier. That was the main difference. We are going to rectify our mistakes, learn from it and hopefully, we can move on and play the final.”
