Rishabh Pant once again proved why he is one of the most fearless and committed cricketers in the Indian Test setup. Despite suffering a fractured toe during the fourth Test at Old Trafford, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter chose to walk out and bat, displaying immense grit and determination. The injury occurred when a searing delivery from Chris Woakes struck him flush on the right toe in the first innings.

However, Pant defied the pain and continued his innings, contributing vital runs that helped India post a respectable total and stay in the contest. Unfortunately, the injury has now ruled Pant out of the all-important fifth Test, effectively ending his England tour.
The BCCI has named Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement, while Pant flies back to India for recovery and rehabilitation. Taking to social media, the Haridwar-born cricketer thanked his fans and well-wishers for their support, stating that their encouragement is helping him stay positive.

“Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It’s been a real source of strength,” Pant wrote on X. “I’ll begin rehab once the fracture heals. I’m being patient, following routines, and giving it my 100%. Playing for the country is the proudest moment of my life. Can’t wait to be back doing what I love.”

Pant’s performances on the tour were nothing short of stellar. In just seven innings, he amassed 479 runs at an incredible average of 68.42, making him India’s third-highest scorer of the series behind Shubman Gill (722) and KL Rahul (511). His tally included two centuries and three fifties—yet another reminder of his value in India’s red-ball setup.

As the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 wraps up, fans will have a brief wait before India returns to Test cricket. A two-match home series against the West Indies is lined up for October in Ahmedabad and New Delhi. Before that, India will be seen in action at the Asia Cup in September, giving Pant just enough time to aim for a strong comeback.
