The India National Cricket Team gathered in Birmingham on June 29 to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their unforgettable 2024 ICC T20 World Cup triumph. The atmosphere was light and full of joy, with cake-cutting, cheerful banter, and a fair share of laughter as the team marked the special occasion.

In a video posted by the BCCI, support staff brought out two cakes—one emblazoned with “Team India” and the other proudly reading “Champions of T20 WC 2024.” Even though Indian captain Shubman Gill wasn’t part of the squad that lifted the trophy last year, he led the celebration with energy, inviting Mohammed Siraj and Yashasvi Jaiswal to join the moment.
The rest of the Indian team nudged Arshdeep Singh forward, recognizing his brilliant performance alongside Jasprit Bumrah in last year’s tournament. But Arshdeep, a little shy, insisted that Bumrah and Siraj step up to cut the cakes, given their contributions to the historic victory.

Laughter echoed around the room as the players fed each other cake, but the highlight was a cheeky exchange between Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. Known for his quick wit, Pant teased Jadeja by joking they were also celebrating “one year of his retirement.” Jadeja, smiling, quickly reminded Pant that he had retired only from T20Is, not from all formats, sparking more laughter.

Jadeja stepped away from T20Is after the World Cup win, joining Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who also retired from T20Is on the day of India’s triumph. While Rohit and Kohli have now restricted themselves to ODI cricket, Jadeja continues to be part of India’s Test and ODI plans.

However, Jadeja’s form has come under scrutiny following India’s five-wicket loss in the first Test against England at Headingley, where he struggled to make an impact. As India heads into the second Test, Jadeja will be eager to silence critics and reaffirm his value to the side.
