The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on February 19, with the Indian team kicking off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. With some of the biggest stars in world cricket featuring in the squad, fans have high expectations from the Men in Blue as they gear up for the marquee event.

However, just before the tournament, India suffered a major setback with ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to a back injury sustained during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Adding to the concerns, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant gave the team a scare during a practice session after taking a blow to his knee.

While the initial assessment suggested it was a minor knock, recent reports indicate that Pant is still experiencing discomfort. During Monday’s practice session, he skipped fielding and wicketkeeping drills and was seen limping, raising concerns about his fitness ahead of the tournament. Even while batting, Pant appeared to struggle, edging several deliveries, which is not an encouraging sign for the dynamic left-hander.

With Pant’s condition uncertain, KL Rahul was seen working on his power-hitting during practice, indicating he could take on the finisher’s role in the middle order. If required, Rahul may shift from his traditional anchor role to a more aggressive batting approach at No. 5 or No. 6. His adaptability could be crucial for India’s balance, especially if Pant’s availability remains doubtful.

Apart from Rahul, Shreyas Iyer was also focusing on his big-hitting abilities, hinting at India’s intent to bolster their middle-order firepower. Meanwhile, the top order looked in prime form, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill displaying elegant stroke play in the nets. Their fluency is a positive sign for India as they head into the tournament aiming for a strong start.
