19-year old Rishabh Pant took on the charge against Umesh Yadav in today’s first match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. Pant thumped 26 runs in the 17th over of the first innings, which was also Umesh Yadav’s fourth over. It was Yadav’s most expensive over in the IPL, his previous one being where he leaked 24 for Delhi Daredevils twice in 2013. The over also made Yadav the joint-highest (4) with Ashok Dinda in terms of bowlers to concede 50+ runs in a match in IPL.
Yadav bowled the first delivery for a dot but Pant came out as the winner on the next five deliveries. The next ball was sent over long-on for a six and the following one over point for a four. Yadav bowled the fourth delivery on the pads, Pant’s strong wrists made sure that the ball landed into the crowd over backward square leg.
Yadav got the length wrong again on the penultimate delivery. Pant was in no mood to show respect to India’s premier fast bowler. He clobbered this one into the night skies over long-on. The ultimate delivery was too full outside the off stump, only to be carved for a boundary through the covers region.
Since his IPL debut in 2016, Pant has a made a name for himself via his attacking batting. In what was another display of his modus operandi of batting, the teenager again passed out in flying colours. Watch the full video:
