Former Indian all-rounder Rishi Dhawan has announced his retirement from domestic limited-overs cricket after Himachal Pradesh failed to progress beyond the group stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. “It’s with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I’d like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). It’s a sport that has defined my life for the past 20 years,” Rishi Dhawan shared, expressing gratitude for the game that brought him immense joy and countless cherished memories.

While stepping away from limited-overs cricket, Dhawan confirmed his availability for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy season, starting January 23. A pivotal figure in Himachal Pradesh’s cricket history, Dhawan captained his side to their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title in 2021-22. However, this season proved challenging, as he managed 196 runs in seven matches at an average of 39.20, alongside eight wickets.

Reflecting on his journey, Dhawan extended gratitude to the BCCI, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), and his IPL franchises—Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders. “From humble beginnings to representing my nation on the grandest stages, it has been a privilege beyond measure,” he wrote, highlighting the passion that drove him throughout his career.

Over his career, Dhawan made significant contributions in domestic cricket, amassing 2906 runs and taking 186 wickets in 134 List A matches. In T20s, he scored 1740 runs and claimed 118 wickets in 135 games. Despite limited success in the IPL, where he played for Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians between 2013 and 2024, Dhawan remained a dependable figure in Indian domestic cricket.

In his farewell note, Dhawan expressed heartfelt thanks to his coaches, mentors, teammates, and support staff for their roles in shaping his career. His departure marks the end of an era for Himachal Pradesh cricket, as Dhawan remains a beloved icon in the state’s cricketing circles.
