Riyan Parag has found himself in a fresh spotlight during IPL 2026 after a video from Rajasthan Royals’ win over Punjab Kings appeared to show him vaping in the dressing room. The clip, which circulated widely on social media, was recorded during the 16th over of RR’s chase in Mullanpur on April 28 and has triggered a major discussion around player conduct and dressing-room discipline.

At present, there has been no official confirmation from the IPL or BCCI about any punishment, but the incident has drawn attention because IPL dressing rooms and stadium premises are treated as non-smoking areas under BCCI protocol, except in designated zones.

That means the visuals, if verified, could potentially raise both disciplinary and regulatory questions. The legal angle is also serious. India’s Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019, bans the production, manufacture, import, export, transport, sale, distribution and advertisement of e-cigarettes.

The law also prohibits the storage of e-cigarettes and sets out penalties for violations. Section 7 of the Act provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to ₹1 lakh, or both for a first offence, while repeat offences can attract imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to ₹5 lakh.

The Union Health Ministry has also clarified that the ban extends to personal possession, not just commercial use, which makes the matter even more sensitive if the clip is confirmed as authentic. In addition, public use of such products can also attract separate provisions under tobacco-control laws.

From a cricketing point of view, the timing has only added to the scrutiny around Parag, who has already been under pressure this season for his form as captain. He scored 29 off 16 balls in RR’s successful chase of 223, while the team went on to win by six wickets and hand Punjab Kings their first loss of the season. Even so, the viral clip has shifted the conversation away from the result and toward whether the IPL will take any formal action.
