In what turned out to be one of the most dramatic finishes of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a nerve-wracking Super Over clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. After being invited to bat first by the Royals, Delhi had a shaky start, losing Jake Fraser-McGurk early in the third over to a sharp delivery from Jofra Archer.

Despite the early blow, Abishek Porel anchored the innings with a gritty 49, while KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs provided solid contributions in the middle order. The Capitals ultimately posted a competitive total of 188 for 5 in their 20 overs.
In response, Rajasthan Royals started with a bang. Openers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal launched a fierce attack, dealing in boundaries from the get-go. However, just as Samson was settling in, a rib injury forced him to retire hurt in the sixth over. Riyan Parag, promoted to No. 3, never found his rhythm and was bowled by Axar Patel for 8 off 11 balls.

Nitish Rana stabilised the chase, scoring a brisk fifty alongside Jaiswal, who notched up his third half-century of the season. Their partnership kept the Royals in the hunt. The finishing responsibility fell to Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer, but a brilliant final over from Mitchell Starc ensured the match ended in a tie.

In the Super Over, chaos unfolded. Mitchell Starc continued with the ball for Delhi, while Rajasthan sent out Hetmyer and Parag. After a no-ball gave RR a Free Hit, confusion struck — a disastrous mix-up saw Parag run out at the non-striker’s end. Jaiswal came in next, only to be run out on his very first ball while trying for a second run. Rajasthan managed just 11 runs.
