After enduring criticism for a lackluster performance in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), young cricketer Riyan Parag has made a stunning comeback, smashing consecutive centuries for Assam in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Embracing a fearless style of play, the 22-year-old has witnessed a remarkable transformation in red-ball cricket.
Buoyed by this success, Parag is now focused on enhancing his white-ball skills for the upcoming IPL 2024. In a reflection on his journey, Parag expressed that he is currently playing with more freedom and dedicating himself to rigorous practice sessions.
The all-rounder collaborated with his father, Parag Das, and coach Zubin Bharucha to fine-tune his game. With this dedicated effort, he anticipates a stellar performance in the upcoming IPL season.

“I am expressing myself more on the field now. My mindset is to hit the first ball for a six if it is in my range, and I don’t mind getting out for playing that shot. During the off-season, I fine-tuned my game with my dad Parag Das and Zubin Bharucha,” stated Riyan Parag in an interview with Sportstar.

He further added, “I always had the shots, but I realized that I need to practice a lot. Cricket is all about muscle memory. So I try to be more repetitive in practice and try to implement that in a game situation.”
Looking ahead to the IPL, Parag acknowledges the significance of the tournament for his career. He aims to carry his exceptional domestic form into the IPL and remains confident despite the higher skill level of bowlers in the T20 extravaganza. Considering a potential change in his batting position, he expressed readiness for the challenge, having consistently batted at number four for Assam.

Notably, ahead of IPL 2023, Parag had set ambitious expectations, including a prediction of hitting four sixes in an over during the tournament. While those predictions did not materialize, he faced online trolling. Undeterred, Parag is determined to showcase improved performance and contribute to Rajasthan Royals’ quest for their second IPL trophy.
