On Wednesday, India’s tour of Australia commenced with the first T20I at the Gabba, Brisbane. While the match was as entertaining as possible, but the commentary panel that the official broadcaster Sony had grabbed a lot of eyeballs. Along with the regular names, they roped in two active cricketers in Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa.
It was Uthappa’s commentary debut and expressed his views and opinions all through the game. After the Indian team’s defeat among other things that were trending on social media was the fact that two currently active players were commentating. There were a lot of misconceptions doing rounds and hence Uthappa decided to clear the air.
Robin took to Twitter and clarified that he took up the commentary role since he is currently on rehab recovering from the ankle surgery. He is a part of the Saurashtra team in the domestic circuit and should’ve been playing the Ranji Trophy season but has been sidelined due to the injury.

Uthappa’s tweet read: “Just to clear the misconceptions out there. I’m giving the commentary a go coz I’m currently recovering from an ankle surgery. It’s by no means takes away from how much I love competing and will continue to do so till I don’t enjoy it anymore or can’t physically.”
