Former Indian middle-order batter Robin Uthappa has chosen three exciting cricketers that he feels will take over the game in the next decade. Among these are the Indian duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with the other being the glaring talent from the Chennai Super Kings, Rachin Ravindra.

With his correct technique as a 24-year-old right-handed batter, Shubman Gill has sealed his place across all formats. Quite recently, he led India to victory in a T20I series against Zimbabwe with a margin of 4-1. He played nine matches for India during the ODI World Cup 2023 and turned out to be the most prolific run-scorer in the 50-over format last year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made it to the Indian team after a great show at IPL 2023, in which he scored 625 runs in 14 matches for the Rajasthan Royals. He had a great time in his Test debut against the West Indies with 171 runs, and Jaiswal also made his T20I debut on the same tour, scoring a century in T20Is—the first Indian batter while being the youngest—to do so during the Asian Games.

Jaiswal continued his fine form and tallied over 700 runs in the Test series against England earlier this year, while he was also a key contributor to the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024.

In Cricket.com’s rapid-fire round, Robin Uthappa was asked to name three cricketers who could dominate the next decade in international cricket. His response was, “Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rachin Ravindra.”

Rachin Ravindra, the batting all-rounder from New Zealand, has also enjoyed his breakthrough year in 2023. Aged 24, the left-handed batter celebrated his maiden international century with an assured performance against England in Ahmedabad during his first ODI World Cup appearance on October 5. He followed it up with two more tons against Australia and Pakistan to help the Kane Williamson-led side finish fourth in the league table and qualify into the semi-finals. The tournament, wholly played in India, ended with him making 578 in 10 matches.

Based on his good form in the 50-over World Cup came Ravindra’s maiden IPL contract. In the first season of IPL with Chennai Super Kings, he couldn’t make much of an impact, getting only 222 in 10 matches.

Robin Uthappa’s endorsement of these three young talents is usefully located within the framework of their potential for becoming cricketing superstars but essentially roots for great performances at both domestic and international circuits. If they carry on their present trajectory, Gill, Jaiswal, and Ravindra are going to define the future course cricket takes in the next ten years.
