On the final day of the Second XI Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford, Lancashire and Durham settled for a draw, with Durham standing at 61-1 in their second innings, leading by 20 runs. Lancashire had declared their first innings at 391-7 earlier in the day before rain halted play in the afternoon.

Before the start of the final day, both teams made substitutions. George Lavelle and Tom Aspinwall were called up for first-team duties, replaced by Cian Dickinson and Joe Moores in the Lancashire side. Meanwhile, Danny Hogg and Bas De Leede joined the Durham first-team squad, with Nathan Sowter as the sole replacement.

Rocky Flintoff and Saqib Mahmood resumed the Lancashire innings at 262-5. Flintoff’s unbeaten fifty, with three sixes and two fours off 78 balls, anchored the innings. Josh Boyden also contributed an enterprising 32, forming a valuable 55-run partnership with Flintoff for the sixth wicket.

Luke Robinson’s stellar bowling dismissed Mahmood and Dickinson, while Sowter accounted for Moores. Corey Flintoff’s brief stint ended with a remarkable diving catch by George Drissell at midwicket. After lunch, Lancashire declared with a 41-run lead. Mahmood’s return to action saw him take another five-over spell, while Charlie Barnard struck early, dismissing Drissell for 13.

Despite a promising start from Michael Jones and Jon Bushnell, rain intervened, forcing an early end to the match with the score at 61-1. Lancashire earned 6 points, with 6 points deducted for a slow over rate, while Durham secured 13 points.
Looking ahead, Lancashire’s second team will face Warwickshire at Edgbaston from Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th April, following a venue change from Northern C.C. in Crosby to Birmingham.
