Rohit Sharma, fondly known as India’s ‘Hitman’, celebrated his 39th birthday on April 30, adding another landmark moment to a career that has spanned nearly two decades at the highest level. The Board of Control for Cricket in India marked the occasion with a tribute highlighting his remarkable numbers and achievements, including over 20,000 international runs and multiple ICC titles.

Since his debut in Belfast on June 23, 2007, Rohit’s journey has been one of transformation and consistency. He began as a promising middle-order batter but evolved into one of the most dominant openers in modern cricket. His ability to pace innings and deliver under pressure has made him a cornerstone of India’s batting lineup across formats.

While Rohit has stepped away from Test cricket and T20 internationals in recent years, his impact in both formats remains significant. In Tests, he scored 4,301 runs in 67 matches, including 12 centuries, with a career-best 212 against South Africa. In T20Is, he signed off in 2024 as one of the format’s leading run-scorers, amassing 4,231 runs and equalling the record for most centuries.

However, it is in ODIs where Rohit’s legacy truly stands out. With 11,577 runs in 282 matches at an average nearing 49, he has established himself among the all-time greats. His record-breaking 264 — the highest individual score in ODI history — and three double centuries underline his ability to turn starts into monumental innings.

As captain, Rohit has also shaped India’s modern success story. He led the team to the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title, ending a long wait for global silverware, and followed it up with a Champions Trophy triumph in 2025. Even as his career evolves, Rohit Sharma’s influence on Indian cricket remains as strong as ever.
