Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who chose to bench himself for the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, shared his candid views on the heated exchange between Jasprit Bumrah and Australian batter Sam Konstas during the closing moments of Day 1. Rohit addressed the incident in an interview with Star Sports, where he also shed light on his decision to sit out of the crucial match.
Rohit defended Bumrah and the Indian team while issuing a subtle warning to their Australian counterparts. “Jab tak shaanth hai tab tak shaanth hai. But agar tum ungli karte rahoge toh thodi shaanth baithega (They are calm until they aren’t. But if you keep provoking them, they won’t stay quiet),” Rohit remarked. The Indian captain emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the game rather than engaging in unnecessary confrontations, urging both teams to prioritize cricket over verbal spats.

These unnecessary things like trash-talking don’t matter. Our boys are classy and focus on their responsibilities),” Rohit Sharma added, praising his team’s composure and professionalism.
Despite the verbal fireworks, Jasprit Bumrah remained effective on the field. He delivered a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja on the final ball of the day, capping it off with a restrained yet intense celebration that reflected his controlled aggression.
However, India faced a significant concern as Bumrah was later taken off the field due to a back injury. The pace spearhead returned during India’s batting innings on Day 2, offering a glimmer of hope for the visitors.
