India captain Rohit Sharma has been fined multiple times by the Pune traffic police for overspeeding on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, according to reports from the Pune Mirror. This comes just a day before India’s clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
“Rohit was handed three traffic tickets for exceeding speed limits on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway,” reported officials from the traffic department. Sharma was en route to Pune to rejoin his team ahead of their ongoing World Cup match at the MCA Stadium. “Rohit was driving at staggering speeds, breaching the 200 kmph limit, and even reaching up to 215 kmph at certain times,” the report added.
In the wake of this incident, his vehicle was reprimanded with three online traffic challans. Interestingly, the car that Rohit was driving, a Lamborghini Urus, displays a number plate featuring his highest score in one-day cricket, 264.

He has led India from the front in their three unbeaten matches of the tournament, boosting the hopes of his cricket-mad nation of winning the title at home. Rohit has scored 217 runs in three matches in the World Cup campaign, with an impressive average over 72 and a strike-rate of 141.83.

“Rohit became the first captain in the tournament to score a century, making his 31st ODI hundred and overtaking Ricky Ponting in third place in the total ODI century list. Only Kohli (47) and Tendulkar (49) stand above Rohit after this achievement,” the report added.
Rohit is set to lead the side against Bangladesh as the Men in Blue aim to continue their perfect run in the 2023 World Cup. India currently occupies the second spot in the points table, only behind New Zealand.
