India captain Rohit Sharma celebrates his 37th birthday today, April 30. In the last couple of decades, the Indian captain has established himself as a dependable batter who can single-handedly win games for his team as well. Popularly known as the ‘Hitman’ by his fans, Rohit was born to Gurunath and Purnima Sharma in 1987 and made his List A debut in February 2006 for the West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy.

After an impactful stint in the tournament, he made his first-class debut a year later against New Zealand in July 2006. Rohit’s debut for India came in 2007 as well.

Records

In his illustrious career, Rohit Sharma has achieved several individual feats in international cricket. He currently holds the record for the most tons in a single series with five tons as well. Rohit Sharma is also the leading batter for most sixes in Test, ODI and T20I combined.

He also holds the record for the joint-most centuries in T20I cricket with five as well. The Indian opener is also the second-fastest cricketer to reach 10,000 ODI runs behind Virat Kohli as well. He is also the second-fastest cricketer to reach 10,000 ODI runs behind Virat Kohli.

Achievements

Rohit Sharma has also scripted several feats in his 17-year-long cricket career. He won the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa and the 2013 Champions Trophy with the national squad as well. He also won the ACC Asia Cup four times in 2010, 2016, 2018 and 2023 as well.

In his domestic cricketer, he has won the IPL five times as the Mumbai Indians skipper. He was announced as India’s captain across all three formats in February 2022.
