Rohit Sharma has finally led India to a long-awaited World Cup victory, breaking the ICC title drought that had persisted since the 2013 Champions Trophy. This triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024 was the result of years of hard work and determination. The victory might have slipped away if not for the brilliant bowling performances at the death by Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya.

With South Africa needing just 30 runs off the final five overs and with six wickets in hand, it seemed they were on the verge of clinching the trophy. However, Bumrah, Pandya, and Arshdeep delivered an exceptional display of defensive bowling, turning the tide in India’s favour. The Proteas faltered under pressure, losing three crucial wickets and managing to score only 22 runs in the last 30 balls, leading to a heartbreaking defeat.

The atmosphere was electric as emotions ran high both on the field and across India. When the moment came to lift the World Cup trophy, Rohit Sharma did it with a flair reminiscent of Lionel Messi’s famous celebration. With the entire team standing on the podium, BCCI secretary Jay Shah handed the trophy to the Indian captain.

Rohit, emulating Messi, walked up in style, took the trophy in his hands, and triumphantly lifted it to the sky. The team erupted in joy, eagerly waiting to celebrate with the coveted trophy. Earlier in the match, India had set a formidable target of 177, the highest ever in a T20 World Cup final, thanks to Virat Kohli’s crucial 76-run knock.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Kohli anchored the innings, ensuring India reached a competitive total. Shivam Dube’s 27-run cameo in the final overs helped India post 176 runs on the board. In the defense, India’s bowlers struck early, but South African batsmen Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs kept their hopes alive.

The victory marked a historic moment for Indian cricket, bringing immense joy and pride to fans and players alike.
