Indian skipper Rohit Sharma backed the idea of playing a bilateral Test series against their arch-rivals Pakistan. Notably, the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is famous in the world of sports and is often considered similar to the Ashes rivalry between England and Australia.

On the podcast “Club Prairie Fire,” former England captain Michael Vaughan asked Rohit Sharma: “Don’t you think India playing Pakistan regularly will be fantastic for Test cricket?” To which he replied: “I totally believe that! They are a good team. Last test match played between India and Pakistan was way back I think in 2006 or 2008 (2007), where Wasim Jaffar got a double hundred in Kolkata.”
However, India and Pakistan last played a bilateral Test series way back in 2007 when Pakistan travelled to India and lost 1-0 as well. The two teams have not played bilateral cricket since 2012-13 and play only in multi-nation tournaments, including the ICC World Cups and Asia Cup tournaments as well.

“I would love to. At the end of the day, we want to be in the contest. I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesn’t even matter. It’s pure cricket that I am looking at. I am not interested in anything else. It’s just pure cricket. A battle between bat and ball. It will be a great contest so why not,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
However, both the arch-rivals will meet at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on June 9 as well.
