On Friday, India’s deputy skipper Rohit Sharma attended a press conference ahead of the first ODI against Australia in Chennai.
It’s Australia’s 2nd visit to India in 2017, as after playing the Test series, this time they have visited for a limited overs series.
Australia and India will lock horns for 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is and it will also be a great competition to see who ends up at numero uno spot in ICC ODI rankings. The first ODI will be played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, September 17, 2017.
Rohit was amongst the leading run-scorers in the last series he played against Sri Lanka, as he smashed two centuries and a half century in a series which India won 5-0. During the press conference, he talked about India’s huge bench strength, he said, “We have a great bench strength. Shikhar’s absence will be felt. He has had a big role to play from the Champions Trophy to the tour of Sri Lanka. But we have a few guys who can replace him.”
When asked about the bitterness with the Australian players due to the last Test series in March, Sharma replied, “We have to wait and see once the tournament starts. But we have to play in the spirit of the game. We are two aggressive sides but there needs to be a line that has to be drawn. A lot of these guys have played enough cricket to understand that. We always come hard at each other and that’s what India-Australia cricket is all about.”
