After India’s defeat to Australia in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, captain Rohit Sharma faced tough questions from the press regarding the team’s performance and his own form. However, he managed to lighten the mood with a witty response when asked about his position as a captain and batsman.
“I stand where I am standing today,” Rohit Sharma quipped, adding a touch of humor to the otherwise tense atmosphere. Reflecting on the loss, Rohit didn’t shy away from acknowledging his own struggles. He expressed disappointment with both his individual performance and the team’s showing.

“A lot of the things that I am trying to do aren’t coming off as a batter. Mentally, it’s a challenge. It’s a big disappointment. As of now, that is where it is,” he admitted, acknowledging the challenge ahead for both himself and his teammates.
Despite the loss, Rohit remained optimistic about the team’s prospects and their ability to end the series on a positive note. “There are things we need to look at as a team, and I also need to look at personally. There’s still a game to go. If we play well, it will be two-all. A draw will be a really nice result,” he added, showing his belief in the team’s resilience.
On Day 5 of the Test, Jasprit Bumrah claimed another five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5-57 in Australia’s second innings. Earlier in the match, he had taken 4-99 in the first innings, continuing his outstanding form.

Despite his efforts, India’s chase of 340 runs got off to a poor start. Rohit Sharma fell early for 9, and KL Rahul was dismissed cheaply as well. This brought Virat Kohli to the crease, but after a promising start, he was dismissed for 5 just before lunch. With three wickets down, Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal to try and rebuild the innings.
