With governments across the world fighting it hard against the ever-growing scare of the novel coronavirus pandemic, a number of high profile public figures have stepped up to aid the struggle against the viral outbreak. India is no different from many sports and movie stars coming forward in support. On Tuesday, it was the turn of the veteran Indian opener, Rohit Sharma, to join the cause as he donated a sum total of ₹8 million to help India get “back on feet”.
Out of the ₹8 million, Rohit has decided to donate ₹45 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund, ₹25 lakh to CM Relief Fund (Maharashtra) while ₹5 lakh each towards Feeding India and welfare of stray dogs.

On Tuesday, tweeting about the same, Rohit said, “We need our country back on feet & the onus is on us. I’ve done my bit to donate 45lakhs to #PMCaresFunds, 25lakhs to #CMReliefFund Maharashtra, 5lakhs to @FeedingIndia and 5lakhs to #WelfareOfStrayDogs.Let’s get behind our leaders and support them @narendramodi @CMOMaharashtra.”

The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma also pledged their support to the Prime Minister and the Maharashtra Chief Minster’s relief funds to combat the dreaded disease. Among other Indian sportspersons, former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly and legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar donated ₹50 lakh each, while world badminton champion PV Sindhu contributed ₹10 lakh. Wrestler Bajrang Punia donated six months’ salary towards the Haryana CM’s relief fund.
Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambir also pledged ₹52 and ₹50 lakh respectively. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive patients in India went past 1400 with 47 people losing their lives on Thursday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The entire world is slowly moving towards a lockdown due to the scare of the ever-escalating situation concerning the World Health Organisation-recognized pandemic that is the Coronavirus. Everything- schools, colleges, airports, railway stations, gyms, sporting events, movies, offices- have been put under lockdown as the world continues to self-isolate in order to control the pandemic.
