The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma had a media interaction ahead of the first T20I of the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. He acknowledged that in-form Suryakumar Yadav’s injury was a big setback for Team India. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar will be missing the been ruled out of India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Both the players picked up on-field injuries during the final T20I against West Indies.
In a statement regarding the same, the BCCI said, “Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries.”

Suryakumar, who was named the Player of the series in the T20Is, was standing in the slips when he suffered a hairline fracture in his hand in the second innings after scoring a 31-ball 65 in the first innings.
Talking about the reports about the same, Rohit Sharma said, “A big setback. He was in great form but there are so many guys waiting for an opportunity. At the same time, I am sad for Surya. A freak injury. You can’t control these things.”
Rohit Sharma also shared his views on the comeback of Sanju Samson for the Sri Lanka series, saying the Kerala wicketkeeper is talented and has got the skill set to succeed. Rohit further stated that Samson is in team management’s plans for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year due to his brilliant backfoot game.
Sanju Samson was last seen in action for the Men in Blue in the T20Is during an away series against Sri Lanka in July 2021. Ever since his T20I debut in 2015, the 27-year-old has represented India in 10 matches, having amassed 117 runs, averaging 11.70, with his highest individual score being 27.

Talking about Samson, Rohit Sharma said, “Sanju Samson has got talent – Whenever we have seen him bat he has produced an innings where people go over the moon. He has got the skill set to succeed – his backfoot game is brilliant – he is definitely in consideration.”
