India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title as they beat Sri Lanka by ten wickets in the final on Sunday, September 17 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The win was India’s biggest win in terms of balls remaining in an ODI match, and it continued their dominance in the continental tournament.
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first, but his batters failed to respond as they were bundled out for just 50 (their second-lowest total in ODIs). Mohammed Siraj was the destroyer-in-chief as he registered his best bowling figures in ODIs of 6/21 in seven overs.
In reply, India comfortably chased down the target in 6.1 overs and won the match by ten wickets. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 23* (18) while Shubman Gill scored 27* off 19.

The win was a special one for India captain Rohit Sharma, who was leading the side in the Asia Cup for the first time. Sharma was also the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 316 runs in six matches.

However, there was a funny incident off the field involving Sharma after the match. The Indian captain forgot his passport in the team hotel and had to call a support staff member to bring it for him after he had boarded the team bus.
This is not the first time that Sharma has forgotten something important. In 2017, his then-India teammate Virat Kohli had revealed in an interview that Sharma is known for being forgetful. Virat Kohli had said, “I haven’t seen anyone forget things like Rohit Sharma does. He even forgets his iPad, passport.”

Despite his forgetfulness, Sharma is one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket history. He has led India to victory in the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and Nidahas Trophy.
