The highly-anticipated latest edition of the Asia Cup commenced on Saturday (August 27) with a tournament-opening encounter between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The Afghanistan team put up a dominant show and registered a comprehensive win over the hosts by a whopping margin of 8 wickets. Meanwhile, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India is all now set to take on Babar Azam-led Pakistan in the second encounter of the marquee Asian tournament today (August 28).
The game will take place at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium commencing from 7:30 PM (IST). The thrilling match between the arch-rivals has had an immense build-up. The Indian team enters the encounter as a runaway favorite and is considered to be a far better team than Pakistan on paper.
The Men in Blue are leaving no stone unturned in terms of preparation after what transpired in the last T20 World Cup (2021). The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma addressed a pre-match press conference on Saturday (August 27) ahead of the encounter against Pakistan. The skipper looked confident about the team and looked in a positive frame of mind entering into a high-octane match on Sunday.
During the media conference, a journalist from Pakistan tested Rohit Sharma with an uncomfortable question. However, skipper Rohit Sharma was quick to come up with a savage and fitting response. He was praised by social media users from India after the incident.
“Rohit, You know what happened last time when India faced Pakitan, so is it inhibiting your confidence?” asked the Pakistani Journalist “See, I have a weak memory. I do not remember the things which happened a year ago,” replied Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma failed to make a significant contribution to the team when India faced the Pakistan team, last year in the T20 World Cup (2021). He was dismissed on duck after Shaheen Shah Afridi trapped him in front of the stumps with an unplayable inswinger. The right-hander would be desperate now to play an impactful inning for the team on a big occasion.
