Indian captain Rohit Sharma provided an update on Bumrah’s recovery during a press conference ahead of the first ODI against West Indies. While acknowledging the importance of Bumrah’s experience, he also emphasized the need for caution due to the nature of his injury. Match fitness is a critical aspect for a player returning from a serious injury, and the team management will closely monitor Bumrah’s progress before making any decisions.
“The amount of experience he (Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he’s coming from a serious injury, and I’ve no idea if he’ll travel to Ireland because the team hasn’t been announced yet,” said Rohit Sharma.
He further added, “If he gets to play, then it’s good, and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components that are missing. We’ll see what has been planned, and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA, and things look positive at the moment.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a medical and fitness update on Bumrah’s rehabilitation process on July 21. The fast bowler is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The BCCI stated that Bumrah is in the final stages of his rehab and is bowling with full intensity in the nets.
