India captain Rohit Sharma has emphasized the strength of his team in all three departments as they prepare to face Australia in the World Test Championship final at the Oval. The Indian team secured their spot in the final by clinching a 2-1 victory over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy at home and finished second in the standings, just behind the Australians.
India’s path to the final was made easier with impressive away win in England and South Africa early on in the championship cycle. Speaking to the ICC, Rohit praised his team’s consistency and highlighted the contributions from all areas of their game. He acknowledged the challenges of the tournament and the need for sustained excellence over a couple of years to reach the final, emphasizing the importance of each department performing well.
“When you consider the consistent cricket that we have played, we have displayed a high standard of cricket in all aspects,” Rohit Sharma stated. “This tournament is extremely demanding. It requires consistent cricket over a sustained period to reach this stage. You need all the departments to perform admirably, and I believe our strength lies in excelling in all three departments.”

With the WTC Final being held at a neutral venue, the Oval, the Indian team may have the advantage of greater support compared to their Australian counterparts, who will be followed by an Ashes series. Rohit acknowledged this possibility and suggested that neutrals might be inclined to cheer for his team.
“A neutral venue presents a unique situation for both teams. There won’t be any home support, although we tend to receive substantial support wherever we play,” Rohit Sharma said with a smile. “However, it has always been enjoyable to play at neutral venues for us.”
He further added, “The rivalry between the two teams is not just limited to the past two or three years. There is a rich history behind these encounters, which makes it even more exciting for both players and fans watching from around the world.”
India came close to claiming the World Test Championship mace in the previous edition, and Rohit expressed that winning this time would be a well-deserved reward for their hard work.

“It would mean everything to us. This format is the ultimate test, the most challenging one,” Rohit Sharma emphasized. “Therefore, emerging as the victors in this particular format would be a remarkable achievement because it’s not the result of a month or two; it is the outcome of the efforts we have put in over the past few years.”
