Regular Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma has arrived in Australia for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has already hit the ground running. Rohit missed the first Test in Perth, where India registered a resounding 295-run victory to lead the five-match series 1-0. The skipper had been on paternity leave following the birth of his son and joined the squad in Perth on Sunday evening.

On Monday, the BCCI shared videos of Rohit taking his first net session of the tour. He faced deliveries from reserve pacers Navdeep Saini, Yash Dayal, and Mukesh Kumar, sharpening his skills ahead of the crucial matches. Notably, former Australian opener David Warner, now a commentator for the series, dropped by during the practice session to catch up with Rohit.

The interaction highlighted the camaraderie between the two former rivals. The Indian team will travel to Canberra on Wednesday for a two-day pink-ball practice match starting November 30. While the match lacks first-class status, it holds significance as preparation for the second Test in Adelaide, beginning on December 6.

The pink Kookaburra ball, known for its unpredictable movement during twilight hours, presents a unique challenge, and Rohit Sharma is expected to use the game to acclimate. In Rohit’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah led India to a remarkable victory in Perth. Despite a shaky start where India was bowled out for 150 in the first innings, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul restricted Australia to 104.
