Team India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube for their stellar performances, propelling India to victory against Afghanistan and securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The left-handed duo played an aggressive brand of cricket, making light work of the 173-run chase with an abundance of boundaries.
Impressed by the positive intent displayed by his team and their aggressive batting approach, Rohit Sharma commended the players for stepping up and executing the game plan effectively. Reflecting on his personal achievement, Rohit became the first male cricketer to play 150 T20I matches, a milestone that marked his remarkable journey with the Indian team since 2007.
“It is a great feeling; it has been a long journey starting way back in 2007. I’ve cherished every moment I have spent here,” shared Rohit Sharma in a post-match presentation.
Rohit emphasized the clarity of the team’s strategy and how the execution of an aggressive playing style has made him proud. He highlighted the satisfaction derived from witnessing the players translate discussions into on-field actions, ticking crucial boxes in the process.
“We have been clear with what we wanted to do, a very clear message to everyone, and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud. One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we’ve ticked a lot of boxes,” he added.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive innings of 68 off 34 balls, featuring six sixes, drew special acknowledgment from Rohit. He praised Jaiswal’s talent, emphasizing his ability to showcase a wide range of shots across formats, having recently made appearances in Test and T20I cricket.
“They’ve had a great couple of years; Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots,” Rohit Sharma added.
Rohit also spoke highly of Shivam Dube, recognizing his role as a powerful hitter, especially against spinners. Dube’s unbeaten 63 off 32 balls, featuring four maximums, played a pivotal role in India’s convincing victory.
“Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role, and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us,” concluded Rohit Sharma, acknowledging Dube’s contribution to the team’s success.
