Rohit Sharma’s future with the Indian cricket team was reportedly discussed during the BCCI’s review meeting in Mumbai on Thursday, September 3. The meeting was attended by India head coach Gautam Gambhir, Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer and Centre of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman.

However, following the meeting, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s possible retirement from ODI cricket. Saikia maintained that the veteran batter is performing well and suggested that the board is not concerned by rumours surrounding his future.

Reports had earlier claimed that Rohit would not be selected for India after the third ODI against England at Lord’s on July 19. The selectors were reportedly keen to provide Yashasvi Jaiswal with greater opportunities as part of India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

However, the latest comments from Saikia indicate that Rohit remains firmly in the discussion. Speaking after the BCCI meeting, the secretary was quoted by Sportstar as saying, “Rohit Sharma playing well, don’t give fodder to rumours.”

The meeting was held without chief selector Ajit Agarkar, although discussions reportedly covered several important areas concerning Indian cricket.

Meanwhile, Saikia also ruled out the possibility of the BCCI appointing a Director of Cricket. VVS Laxman had reportedly emerged as a potential candidate for the position in recent weeks.

The BCCI secretary also dismissed speculation about changes to India’s senior men’s selection committee, which is currently led by former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar. For now, Rohit’s ODI future remains a talking point, but the BCCI has made it clear that retirement rumours should not be treated as confirmation of any immediate change.
