Rohit Sharma has been a constant presence at every edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup since the tournament’s inception in 2007. From a young opener in South Africa to a title-winning captain in 2024, the journey has come full circle for the Indian batting stalwart. However, the upcoming T20 World Cup will mark a first in Rohit’s illustrious career — watching the marquee event without being part of India’s playing squad.

Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Captain Rohit Sharma’s Roadmap for T20 World Cup’, the 2024 World Cup-winning skipper admitted that the reality of missing the tournament is still sinking in. Rohit revealed that conversations at home made him realise just how different this experience will feel after nearly two decades of involvement.
“We were talking about this at home, that it will be strange watching it from home, especially the T20 World Cup. From the time it started until now, I have been part of every World Cup, so it will feel different,” Rohit Sharma said.

He explained that while missing bilateral T20Is doesn’t evoke the same emotion, missing a World Cup hits differently.

“When you miss a World Cup, the reality really sinks in. That’s when you realise you’re not going to be part of it. So it will be a little weird,” he admitted. Despite that, Rohit sounded at peace, adding that he plans to be present in the stadiums and soak in the atmosphere as a spectator for the first time.

“It won’t be the same and it will be a different experience, but I’m actually looking forward to it,” said Rohit Sharma , who is only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to lift the T20 World Cup.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8 across India and Sri Lanka, with matches scheduled in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Colombo and Kandy.
