Rohit Sharma To Make A Rare T20I Record In Rajkot Game

The Indian stand-in skipper, Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian team in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in the absence of Virat Kohli. He didn’t get the best of his starts to his series, both as batsman and captain, but will come with a strong approach in the second match which is scheduled to be played in Rajkot.

It will also be a special match for the Indian opener as he is close to a huge milestone in the shortest format of the game. In 1st T20I, Rohit only managed to score only 9-odd runs and was out in the first over of the innings. But, in his 9-run knock, he went past Kohli in order to become the leading run-scorer in T20Is.

Now, Rohit is leading the charts with 2,452 runs in T20Is, and he is two runs ahead of Kohli. Martin Guptill with 2,326, followed by Shoaib Malik (2,263) and Brendon McCullum (2,140) holds third, fourth and fifth places in the list of all-time leading scorers in T20Is.

The stand-in skipper Rohit will join the club of playing his 100th T20I when he will step on the field in the second T20I against the Tigers at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on 7th of November.

Sharma had already surpassed the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni with 98 appearances in T20Is when he took the field in Delhi T20I. The Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik (111) and Indian cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur (100) are also part of this unique list.

Rohit’s unexpected dismissal in the first T20I was a major blow for the Indian team as they couldn’t recover from it till the last and posted a below-par total of 148 runs in front of Tigers. Later on, an unbeaten knock of 60 runs coming from Mushfiqur Rahim’s willow helped the visitors in order to register a historic win on the hosts. They also succeeded in breaking a myth of not winning in T20Is against India.
