Prior to the two-match T20I series against the hosts Ireland, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma recalled his international cricket debut which was in 11 years ago against Ireland at Belfast on June 23, 2007.
It was the only ODI match between Ireland and India where India claimed a comfortable 9-wicket victory (with 25 balls remaining) in the rain-interrupted match. While Ireland was bundled out for just 193 runs in 50 overs, India had to chase 171-run in 39 overs due to the rain-interruption prior to their innings. Thanks to the opener Sourav Ganguly (73*) and no.3 batsman Gautam Gambhir (80*), India comfortably chased down that target in 34.5 overs after losing the only wicket of another opener Sachin Tendulkar (4 runs).
While Gambhir won the Player of the Match award, Rohit didn’t get an opportunity to bat in his debutant international cricket match. Talking about his contribution in that game, Rohit took only a catch that dismissed Irish wicketkeeper-batsman Niall O’Brien (52 runs), the highest runs scorer for Ireland in that game.
Recalling that moment, Rohit tweeted on his official account, “Life has come full circle; this day that year I made my debut for India and soon I’m right back where it all began.”

In 11 years, Indian cricket has changed hugely while Rohit has modified himself as a star cricketer. Later on September 19, 2007, Rohit made his T20I debut against England at Durban during the 2007 ICC World T20, famously known for Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in Stuart Broad’s one over.
However, it took November 2013, when Rohit made his first appearance in the Test cricket.
Till the date, Rohit has played 25 Tests, 180 ODIs and 79 T20Is where he has scored a total of 9,925 runs. The 31-year-old is presently the vice-captain of India’s limited-overs teams.
Among the many personal records, Rohit has some special records. Few of the special records are –highest individual knock in ODI cricket (264 runs), the only player to score more than one double-centuries in ODI cricket (3 double hundreds) etc.
