India’s T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024 marked one of the most emotional highs of Rohit Sharma’s illustrious career. Leading the Men in Blue to their second ICC T20 World Cup title, Rohit guided India to a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa at Kensington Oval, Barbados—bringing the trophy home after a long 17-year wait.

For Rohit, the moment carried even deeper significance. He was part of the young Indian squad that won the inaugural T20 World Cup under MS Dhoni in 2007, and nearly two decades later, he lifted the same trophy as captain before signing off from T20Is. Reflecting on the win during an ICC event in Mumbai, Rohit described the triumph as nothing short of a “miracle.”

The heartbreak of the 2023 ODI World Cup final still lingered, and Rohit Sharma admitted that fate played its part in allowing India to redeem themselves. “God has been very kind… From where we were, to go on and win that final, it was truly a miracle. And then, eight months later, another ICC trophy—so I’m pretty happy with that,” Rohit said.

The final itself was a nail-biter. South Africa required just 30 runs off 30 balls—a position from which most teams cruise home. But India’s bowlers produced a sensational comeback. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh struck at crucial moments. At the same time, Hardik Pandya delivered a match-defining spell with three wickets, turning the contest on its head and sealing a famous Indian victory.

During the T20 World Cup 2025 schedule launch in Mumbai, Rohit was asked to predict the finalists for the next edition in India and Sri Lanka. Without hesitation, he placed India in the title clash once again, expressing his desire to see the team defend their crown.

“Obviously, I want India to be in the finals… I don’t care who’s on the other side. India playing the final and coming out on top—that’s what I’d love to see,” Sharma Rohit said with a smile.
