India batting star Rohit Sharma has opened up about the conversations he shares with Virat Kohli whenever the two veteran batters are at the crease together, revealing how they constantly discuss their approach to scoring runs and building partnerships. Rohit and Kohli, who have both retired from T20Is and Tests, now feature exclusively in ODIs. With international appearances coming only every couple of months, their presence in the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies remains a major talking point.
Despite questions surrounding their fitness and ability to continue at the highest level, the experienced duo has responded with performances on the field, continuing to contribute valuable runs for India.
“The discussion is about what we can do. When we are batting together, we are discussing whom to attack, whom to take a single off and what to do. Sometimes something happens in my leg, so I tell him, ‘Brother, run carefully, I am feeling something,’” Rohit Sharma said while speaking to JioStar. “So he is understanding that way. And, you know, such conversations keep happening. So it has been pretty fun. Nothing has changed from when we started to now,” he added.

With the 2027 ODI World Cup already becoming a frequent topic of discussion among fans and experts, Rohit was also asked whether he and Kohli speak about the tournament.
The Indian opener made it clear that there is little need for such discussions between two players with so much World Cup experience. “No, no. He has been playing for so many years. Whether it is the ’27 World Cup or the ’23 World Cup, there is no need to explain it to him. World Cup is World Cup,” Rohit Sharma said.

“I am pretty sure that everyone who is going to be part of the team understands the importance of a World Cup. And especially Kohli. I mean, the one who has played the most World Cups, I think in this team, it is him,” he added.
