Rohit Sharma speaks on Dhoni’s Comeback to the National Team

On Tuesday, India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma joined hands with fellow teammate Suresh Raina for an Instagram live session where he shared his hope to see Dhoni’s return to the Indian team.

MS Dhoni has been away from competitive cricket as he took a break for a period of over 9 months. The Indian wicket-keeper last played cricket during India’s semi-final loss to New Zealand in the World Cup 2019 in England. He was set to return in action with IPL 2020 as it was Dhoni’s platform to make a comeback. However, With BCCI Suspending IPL for an indefinite period, selection turns out to be more difficult fo the 2011 World Cup-winning captain.

Raina said, “I played with him (during Chennai Super Kings training sessions) and he was playing well. Only he knows what’s going on in his mind. Best will be if he himself reveals his plans.”Rohit Sharma responded to Raina’s statement with, “If he’s batting well, then he must play. I hope he does.”

During the interaction, Raina revealed he is also hoping to represent India once again.  Rohit Sharma gave an insight into the talks on the same that happens during team meetings on the same topic.

Rohit said,  “I know it is very tough to be out of the team after playing for so many years. We used to always discuss including Raina in the team in some way and utilize him. You have the experience – can bowl and field too. Team selection is not in our hands and a lot of things are considered so don’t know what the thinking is right now.”

Raina responded with, “Selection isn’t in our hands, we can only perform. I have always enjoyed my cricket and the senior players have always backed our generation.”

Rohit also spoke about being left out from the Indian team as he wasn’t part of the  2011 World Cup squad. He recalled, “When I wasn’t part of the 2011 ODI World Cup, a lot of things were going on my mind. So I decided to look back at my past performances, how I was getting out. It is heartbreaking when you are not on the team. So I improved myself,” he said.
