The hamstring injury of the veteran Indian opener, Rohit Sharma has become a talk of the town in recent times and his availability for the Test series in Australia has been a long-awaited decision. While everyone’s wondering regarding his progression in the rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, it is learned that Rohit is putting in the extra yards to work on getting leaner and shed some fat in order to get a lesser amount of niggles in the future, not just recovering from the injury.
While Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the Test series despite recovering from a side injury, Rohit will be reassessed at the NCA on December 11. Accoridng to the reports of the Times of India, Rohit’s hamstring is doing ‘pretty fine’, but he is working hard on his strength and fitness to sustain the rigors of Test cricket. The process currently is more about him ‘getting back in good shape’.
Ishant will not be playing the Test series in Australia, the final decision on Rohit Sharma will be on Dec 11. On Sunday, Rohit posted pictures from NCA on Instagram and looked in much better shape than he was during the IPL.

Talking about the same, one of the sources of TOI in BCCI said, “Unless the physio gives a clean chit, a player can’t undergo a high-intensity fitness test. But if he is undergoing rehab on an injury in his lower body, he can work on his upper body’s conditioning and shed weight. A lighter upper body will ensure he doesn’t put much strain on the dodgy hamstring”.

The source further added, “Rohit doesn’t want to take any chance this time. He is very conscious of fitness standards. He has been plagued by injuries in the last year. Then the lockdown happened before he got on with his IPL duties. He has been on the road for two years too. That didn’t really give him much of a chance to work on his fitness. Now, he wants to ensure he is in perfect shape and his body is ready to endure the rigors of non-stop cricket next year.”
