Accoridng to the latest media reports, Rohit Sharma is set to be named India’s Test captain ahead of the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. The Lankan team is set to tour India later this month for Two Tests and three T20Is, starting from February 24. BCCI selectors now have the onus to pick the Indian Test skipper and the Chetan Sharma-led committee is set to pick Rohit for the role.
Last month, Virat Kohli decided to resign as the test captain after India’s loss in the three-match Test series in South Africa. Rohit, who has the reins of the ODI and T20I squads, has done well in the longest format in the last couple of years and is the front-runner to take the role. However, the cricket world has been divided on the opener taking the charge in the longest format as well.

Rohit will turn 35 in April 2022 and has been prone to injuries. Hence, many experts and pundits reckon the selectors should elect someone as India’s Test captain. However, according to the recent reports of Cricbuzz, the veteran opener is set to become India’s all-format captain. It has been learned that the date for the selection committee meeting has not been finalized. However, whenever the selection meeting takes place, they are most likely to give the reins to Rohit.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the initially-planned schedule has been twisted for the Sri Lanka series. The tour is scheduled to be commencing with the T20I leg on February 24 in Lucknow. The second and third T20I will take place on February 26 and 27 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.
