Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma will be skipping the team’s initial travel to Australia for the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. This decision stems from his family commitments as Rohit, 37, is eagerly awaiting the birth of his second child. However, fans and team members alike remain hopeful about his participation, as there’s still a chance he might join the squad in time for the series opener.
The first Test, scheduled at Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 22, could still see Rohit in action, depending on how the situation unfolds. A source within the BCCI revealed to The Times of India: “Yes, Rohit is not travelling with the team, but don’t rule him out of the first Test as yet. He may end up flying to Australia later in the third week, closer to the first Test.”
This statement has kept cricket enthusiasts optimistic, as Rohit’s presence is expected to boost India’s confidence in a crucial overseas series. Rohit Sharma’s absence at the start, however, means he might miss crucial preparation time with the team, which could impact India’s strategy and initial approach. Team India is gearing up for their journey in two separate batches, set to depart on Sunday and Monday.
