Rohit Sharma wants fans to wait for bursting crackers

On Sunday, India team vice-captain Rohit Sharma shared a tweet with the fans who were seen bursting crackers rather than lighting diyas or candles at 9 pm.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of #9pm9min initiative was a massive success as people all across the county showed unity and lit up candles, diyas on the window of their homes. Modi’s decision was to ignite hope amongst people amid the 3-week national wide lockdown across India.

Rohit took to Twitter and his post read, “Stay indoors India, don’t go out on the streets celebrating. World Cup is still some time away.”

The Mumbai Indians skipper was talking about the scheduled ICCT20 World Cup in Australia. The 7th edition of the ICC Men’s T 20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Australia starting on 18th October. Australia just like other countries across the globe has fallen to the pandemic spread of the COVID-19 virus. There were fears of cancellation or postponement of the tournament, amid the pandemic outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

ICC has confirmed in a recent statement that the tournament will go ahead as originally scheduled. The Tournament is expected to commence in October, later this year. Usually, Indian fans burst firecrackers to celebrate the cricket team’s victory.

In a statement released by the ICC, it read, “In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities and will continue to do so. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October 15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled.”

Originated in China, the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 1,349,870 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 74,820 people globally. The pandemic spread of the virus has affected more than 4,850 people across India taking away more than 136 lives.
