The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder, Pat Cummins played an unbeaten knock of 15-ball 56, joint-fastest IPL fifty, and helped his team to register a dominating 5-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 14 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at MCA Stadium in Pune. Cummins was ably supported by Venkatesh Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 41-ball 50, to guide KKR to chase down the target of 162 runs with 4 overs to spare.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav was the highest run-getter for MI as he has amassed 5 runs off 36 balls to take his side to 161/4 after they were asked to bat. Kieron Pollard played a breezy cameo as well, scoring an unbeaten 22 off five balls, but in the end, it was not enough. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten from the other end, on 37 off 28 balls.

Pat Cummins starred with the bat for KKR and in the process, he scored the joint-fastest fifty in IPL, equaling KL Rahul’s record of 14-ball to reach the landmark, to see off the challenging target of 162 in just 16 overs. He was ably assisted by Venkatesh Iyer to get the job done with ease. Venkatesh remained unbeaten on 50 off 41 balls, with six fours and one six, while Cummins struck six sixes and four fours in his brief stay.

KKR was requiring 35 runs in the last 5 overs and Daniel Sams was bowling the 16th over. In that over, Pat Cummins kept on hitting the ball out of the ground and he took KKR over the line with four overs to spare. It was some mad hitting and clearly, MI skipper Rohit Sharma was frustrated with the result of the game.

Rohit Sharma’s frustration was visible ahead of the post-match presentation ceremony as when he wasn’t able to hear the question from one of the commentators, he got irritated asking to increase the volume. ‘Awaaz badhao yaar uska,” Rohit Sharma was heard saying. However, the man calmed himself down later to answer some questions post the loss.

Talking about the knock from pat Cummins, Rohit Sharma said, “Never expected him to come and play like that [on Cummins]. With the bat we did not start well, in the last 4-5 overs to get 70+ was a great effort from the batting unit.  Whenever you have runs on the board, you always have the upper hand, We had them 5-down, it was just a matter of the wicket of Venky or Pat, they had Sunil who could smash them. This will be hard to digest, the way it turned out in the last few overs.”
