The Indian deputy skipper, Rohit Sharma smashed his 22nd ODI century on Saturday against Australia in Sydney, though, it wasn’t enough to help India go past the line. Chasing a stiff target of 289, India faced a batting collapse up front losing three wickets for just four runs and it was Rohit’s 129-ball 133 and MS Dhoni’s 96-ball 51 that steadied the Indian innings but yet they fell short by 34 runs.

However, back home in India, Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh shared a post of their newborn daughter Samaira lying in front of the television with the match on and wearing a blanket, which had “I love my daddy” engraved on it. Ritika shared the cute video of the camera fast changing focus between the television screen and Samaira’s cute blanket to signify the newborn ‘cheering’ her father on the ground.

Rohit missed the fourth Test against Australia earlier this month as he came back home after the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne to be with his newborn daughter and wife. Sharma returned to Australia to join the ODI squad on January 8.

The 133 was Rohit’s fifth ODI century on the Australian soil and he now has 29 international tons under in belt. He now is the joint third in the list of most ODI century-makers for India with former India captain Sourav Ganguly and after Sachin Tendulkar (49) and captain Virat Kohli (38).

While former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara also has five centuries in Australia, Sharma is now the second in the list of batsmen with most hundreds (seven) scored in India-Australia ODIs. Tendulkar tops the list with nine while Ponting follows Rohit with six. Rohit also has a double hundred against Australia in ODIs, scored in Bengaluru in 2013.

Sharma made a comeback to the Indian Test squad on the back of his excellent form the ODIs in 2018 (he was the second highest scorer after Kohli in the year) and the new year, too, has started with a bang for the Mumbai batter.
