The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) entered the recently concluded season as the defending champions. Expectations were high of them as they have lifted the coveted trophy three times, the joined most by any franchise in the history of the tournament under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Prior to the event, they were struck by a massive blow as Pat Cummins, the Australian paceman being ruled out due to a back injury.
Mitchell McClenaghan, who remained unsold in the auction, was drafted in by the team as the replacement of Cummins. He played a few seasons for the same squad after which he was released by the team management. It was a bit surprising keeping in mind, Mitch’s exploits for Mumbai in the previous seasons. Nevertheless, they made corrected their mistake and the Black Caps pacer didn’t let his team down by any means.
The fast-bowler old scalped 14 wickets from 11 matches at an economy rate, which is adequate for kind of pitches he bowled on, especially the Wankhede where runs aren’t hard to score for a batsman. Mumbai couldn’t qualify for playoffs and most importantly, were unable to defend their title. Their last match against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) was a must win one and they somehow couldn’t survive the pressure game.

Yesterday, McClenaghan celebrated his 32nd birthday and Rohit shared a hilarious message for the southpaw pacer. He wrote: “Hey Mitch best wishes on your birthday mate, you are a top guy. Will send you some Mumbai street food recipes to enjoy on your birthday. Have a savage one @Mitch_Savage”.
