The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has reached an enthralling stage, with one day left to determine the victor. While the cricketing action has been intense, Day 4 was marked by a humorous exchange between Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, adding a lighthearted moment to the tension.

The incident unfolded during a change of overs with Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland at the crease. When Virat Kohli asked Rohit Sharma who would bowl next, the Indian skipper promptly responded, “Jaddu daal Jaddu,” referring to Ravindra Jadeja by his nickname. Rohit then instructed Jadeja, “Yahan se daal ke dekh kya hota hai (Bowl from this end and see what happens).” The banter didn’t stop there, as Rohit added with a chuckle, “Aye Jaddu, daant mat dikha zyada yaar usko (Don’t show him too much teeth).”

Although the exact meaning of the latter comment was unclear, it seemed Rohit was advising Jadeja to keep his composure. Adding to the amusement, Rishabh Pant, known for his lively on-field presence, joined the fun. Caught on the stump mic, Pant encouraged Jadeja with, “Nice, Jaddu bhai. Aage aane do yaar, chalo bhaiyo (Let the batter come forward; come on, guys).” Clips of the lighthearted exchange quickly went viral on social media, providing fans with a memorable off-the-pitch moment.

On the cricketing front, India had earlier posted 369 in response to Australia’s 474, thanks to a stellar 127-run partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy (114) and Washington Sundar (50). Jasprit Bumrah led a fiery bowling spell, reducing Australia to 91 for 6 with support from Mohammed Siraj. However, dropped catches allowed Australia to recover, with Marnus Labuschagne (70) and Pat Cummins (41) frustrating the Indian bowlers.

The last-wicket stand between Nathan Lyon (41*) and Scott Boland (10*) added an unbroken 55 runs, taking Australia to 228 for 9 at stumps with a lead of 333 runs. With Day 5 promising an exciting finish, India will need a special effort to counter Australia’s stronghold and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
