Rohit played an incredible century knock against the hosts Australia in the Sydney ODI on Saturday (12 January). However, the visiting side failed to win that first ODI of the three-match ODI series as Rohit didn’t get enough support on their chasing of 289 runs target.

In their chasing, India lost their first three wickets in just four runs on the board. While the opener Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for a golden duck, the skipper Virat Kohli (3) and the no.4 batsman Ambati Rayudu (0) followed Dhawan soon.

After then, Rohit took the charge of Indian innings along with MS Dhoni and provided a 137-run partnership. But after Dhoni was dismissed on 51 off 96 balls, Rohit didn’t get enough support. However, he tried to fight till the end of the innings and took the team’s total closer to the target.

While the Hitman took 62 balls to complete his half-century, he reached a century on 110 balls. Before losing his wicket, Sharma carried his innings to 133 runs off 129 balls with the help of 10 fours and 6 sixes. The lone warrior in that battle finally lost his wicket in the 46th over when he tried to hit a six over midwicket on Marcus Stoinis’ slower delivery but he was caught out at deep midwicket by Glenn Maxwell. It ended the hope Indian cricket team in that game as the visiting side only managed 254/9 at the end of 50 overs.
